How it works
Four stages between you and whatever is in the water
Water goes in one end contaminated and comes out the other end clean. In between, it passes through four physical stages, and none of them need power, chemicals or moving parts.
What happens inside the straw
Pre filter cotton catches the big stuff
A layer of medical grade PP cotton stops sand, silt, rust flakes and visible debris before they reach the membrane, which keeps the fine stages flowing fast.
The 0.1 micron membrane blocks the dangerous stuff
Hundreds of hollow fibers with 0.1 micron pores let water molecules through and physically block bacteria, parasites, worm eggs and microplastics. Nothing larger than 0.1 microns passes. This is the stage that makes questionable water safe.
Activated carbon fixes the taste
A carbon core adsorbs chlorine, odors and off tastes, so pond water stops tasting like pond water.
A final cotton layer polishes
A second PP cotton layer catches any loose carbon fines, and clean water reaches your mouth at 18.6 oz per minute.
Three ways to drink
- Straight from the source. Lie at the edge, put the straw in and drink. The extension tube reaches water you cannot get close to.
- Squeeze bag. Fill the 1.5L reservoir, screw the straw on, and squeeze clean water into cups and bottles for the whole family.
- Bottle mode. The straw screws onto any standard 28mm bottle, so you can scoop, screw and drink.
Getting the most out of it
- Always pick the cleanest, clearest source available. Flowing water beats standing water.
- The first few sips take a little more suction while the membrane wets. That is normal.
- Backflush with the syringe every 25 to 50 gallons, or whenever the flow slows.
- Air dry fully before long term storage, and keep the cap on so the mouthpiece stays sanitary.
What it is not for
Salt water, and water contaminated with fuel or industrial chemicals. No straw filter makes those safe. For everything nature and a failed grid will throw at you, streams, lakes, rain barrels, pool water and melted snow, it does exactly what it says.
